Maurice Edmond Müller was born in 1918 and grew up in Biel.

- Practised in Ethiopia, Holland and Switzerland (Fribourg, Zurich).
- Senior physician at the Orthopaedics-Traumatology Ward of the Surgical Clinic at St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital.
- 1963–1980 Prof. Dr med. and Director of the University Clinic for orthopaedic surgery at the Inselspital in Bern.
Author of various books and publications.
Besides twelve titles of Dr. med. h.c. and the Vesalius Honorary Ring from Basel University Maurice E. Müller is also an honorary member of 24 societies worldwide, including Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and holder of numerous international awards. Honoured as Surgeon of the Century in 2002 by SICOT (Société internationale de chirurgie orthopédique et de traumatologie).
