Valentim works in a variety of media, including film, photography and the production of film screenings and lectures. His practice discloses the mechanisms of cultural production and how pedagogic materials are constructed as a result of the identity of the culture that produce them. He received his undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, and his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
